North Path, a transmission project
North Path, a transmission project
The New Mexico North Path (North Path) transmission project, developed by Invenergy and the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA), will deliver domestically produced energy from northeastern New Mexico to the Four Corners region. This project will play a critical role delivering energy affordability for families and businesses, meeting surging energy demand, bolstering reliability, and strengthening local economies.
Project Stats
North Path will create family-sustaining jobs and make economic investments in our shared New Mexico communities, building a stronger foundation for the future.
miles state of the art high voltage direct current transmission line
gigawatts power generation capacity, equivalent to 3 nuclear reactors of new energy delivery
Project Partner
North Path is supported by a New Mexico partner who brings local expertise and resources, coupled with its independent board to ensure successful development. In January 2023, the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA), an agency created by the New Mexico State legislature, entered into a joint development agreement with Invenergy for development of the North Path transmission line.

Community Benefits
The energy transition will only succeed if it works for local communities and economies. That's why we're committed to New Mexico for the long term. North Path will create economic opportunities and support social and environmental initiatives locally by partnering with Tribal and local communities.
Benefits include:
- Dozens of long-term family-sustaining jobs during operation
- Thousands of jobs during construction
- Millions of dollars in annual payments to Tribes, state, localities, and landowners
- Billions of dollars invested for new in-state energy generation
Responsible Routing
When determining the route for a transmission line, we prioritize three core categories: Engineering and Constructability, Land Use and Cultural considerations, and Ecological impact. Within these categories, we evaluate a variety of factors, including valuable feedback from route and community stakeholders, to determine the most appropriate path forward.
